This study evaluated fungal diversity during needle decomposition of Pinus taeda under plantations with 6, 10, 14, 17 and 29 years old, located at Três Barras, SC, Brazil. Recent fallen needles were collected in April/2006, fragmented, submitted at 20 successive water washings, inserted in Petri dishes containing PDA medium with lactic acid and incubated at environmental conditions. Aureobasidium, Candida, Cladosporium, Exophiala, Fusarium, Penicillium, Pestalotia, Rhizoctonia, Rhizopus, Trichoderma and Tubercularia genera were identified. The most abundant genera were Pestalotia, Trichoderma and Penicillium. Fungal diversity was higher in older stands and can promote nutrient cycling and sustainability in longer rotation of pine plantations.

Os valores obtidos na amostragem não permitiram o desenvolvimento de um modelo válido para estimar a carga de combustíveis vivos, devido aos baixos coeficientes de determinação.; The objectives of this research were to measure and model the surface forest fuel in the Iguaçu National Park. A total of 133 plots (1.0mx1.0m) were located in the Park area in order to collect the information needed to develop the investigation. Live and dead woody surface fuels were collected, separated and classified, generating the following groups: miscellanea (MIS); dead fuel, diameter ≤ 0.7 cm (L1M); dead fuel, diameter > 0.7cm (L2M); total woody dead fuel (LTM = L1M + L2M); total dead fuel (MLTM = MIS + LTM); live fuel, diameter ≤ 0.7cm (L1V); live fuel, diameter > 0.7cm (L2V); total woody live fuel (LTV = L1V + L2V); and total fuel load (CTC = MLTM+LTV). The independent variables measured were: litter depth (EMO); average DBH (DAP); basal area (G); and trees average height (H). The total fuel load measured through the sample plots varied from 1.75 to 21.72 ton.ha -1 , with an average of 11.74 ton.ha -1 . Models generated through the forward stepwise methodology could be considered a first approach to estimate the fuel load based on some easily obtained independent variables in the Iguaçu National Park. The best model to estimate total dead fuel load was (R 2 = 0.57): MLTM = 951.639 + 20.179 (EMO 3 ) – 800.441 (1/EMO) – 0,090 (G 2 *EMO) + 14.982(G) and the best model to estimate the total fuel load was (R 2 = 0.58): CTC = 1162.193 + 19.355 (EMO 3 ) – 925.90 (1/EMO) – 0.086 (G 2 *EMO) + 13.980 (G). It was not possible to generate a model to estimate live fuel load due to the lower determination coefficients obtained.

Influência do fotoperíodo no ataque de Dinoderus minutus Fabricius (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) em lâminas torneadas de espécies tropicais; Influence of photoperiod in the attack of Dinoderus minutus Fabricius (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) in rotary cut veneers of tropical species
This research had as objective to evaluate the influence of photoperiod to the attack of borers Dinoderus minutus (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) in wood rotary cut veneers of six tropical species: axixá (Sterculia sp.), amescla (Trattinickia burseraefolia (Mart.) Wild), bandarra (Cedrelinga catenaeformis Ducke), copaíba (Copaifera sp.), sumaúma (Ceiba pentandra) and tauari (Couratari sp.) used in the manufacture of plywood panels. Two experiments were carried out, in conditions of laboratory, testing the species of isolated form and grouped form, induced to the attack of this insect, simulating its storage. The period of assay was of 20 weeks, in adaptation to European norm DIN EN 20-1 (1992), observing the index of mortality and the quantification of the perforations. The species sumaúma was the only one attacked and infested by the insect. Amongst the other tested species, tauari detached by the biggest insect mortality between veneers (samples) showing its resistance to D. minutus.

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the seed and total biomass production of Tephrosia candida DC. in different row spacing and harvest period. The experiment was set under field conditions, the treatments were arranged in subplots in a randomized complete block design, and consisted of five row spacing (20, 40, 60, 80 e 120 cm) and three harvest period (12, 18 and 24 months from sowing). The row spacing was kept constant with five plants per linear meter in all treatments. A significant effect was observed from spacing in the dry matter production. Smalls productions had occurred in major spacing. Seed production was influenced by spacing only in the first harvest. The plant heights did not vary in function of spacing, but they increased as a function of the harvest period because the time of development of the plants.
