DAP 2 . At ] .; Allometric relations can be applied in the forecast of the ideal density of trees, competition evaluations, inferences about the stability, vitality and productivity and in the elaboration of forest growth models. Trees in consortium with forages, the silvopastoral systems (SSP), are very frequent nowadays, considering the advantages of the arboreal component for the pasture and animals. It support the present study with objective to evaluate, under the regression form, the possible relationships among diameter at breast height (DAP), crown height (Ac), stem height (Af), total height (At), diameter (Dc) and cylindrical volume of crown (Vc) in a SSP with Pterodon emarginatus, subsidizing their management. The data were collected in Nioaque – MS county, in a consortium area of P. emarginatus x B. decumbens x beef cattle, in which the trees were maintained intact during deforestation. For the regression, data of 91 adult trees of varied dimensions were randomly collected. The models were evaluate for graphical analysis of residues, significance of the regression coefficients, coefficient of determination and residual standard error. The Stoffels potential model was more appropriate for estimate At f (DAP); the straight line resulted on the betters levels to estimate Ac f (At), Vc f (DAP) e Dc f (DAP); good 2 fitness to estimate Vc f (DAP; At) were obtained from one of Spurr model [ y = a + b. . ] .

This research evaluated the effect of a fungicide and a biological product, singly and combined, for the control of pathogens, especially Rhizoctonia sp., in seeds of Cedrela fissilis. Before the seeds treatment, the inoculation of Rhizoctonia sp., isolated from C. fissilis seeds in blotter-test and considered pathogenic for the specie, was done on half of the seeds used. After, the seeds were subjected to treatments with powder organic product based on Trichoderma spp. (singly), powder fungicide Captan (also singly), combination of two products in a maximum dose considered (100%) and combination of half dose of both products, besides the control. After the seeds treatments the following tests were done: germination, emergence in vermiculite, with evaluations of seedlings and sanitary by blotter-test. No treatment could eradicate Rhizoctonia sp. inoculated seed, but the treatment with 100% of the dose of both products reduced its incidence. The combination of chemical and biological products can be a viable alternative for the treatment of C. fissililis seeds, especially in the control of Rhizoctonia sp.

The use of satellite images has been very effective for monitoring the dynamics of the land use and occupation over time. For this purpose , the change detection techniques have been strong allies. These techniques have multiple complexities depending on the objective to be achieved. This study aims to evaluate the technique for land use and land cover changing detection in areas affected by the environmental disaster of November 2008 in the region of Morro do Baú, Santa Catarina, Brazil. A total of 04 (four) images from different dates between 1992 and 2009 (post-disaster) were used. The images were processed in vegetation index using bands 7 and 4 in order to minimize atmospheric and radiometric distortions. Shadow mask, construted from the digital terrain model, was developed to avoid false changes caused by shade. It was concluded that the georeferencing must be very accurate in applying these techniques. The vegetation index by using bands 7 and 4and the shadow mask, were effective in minimizing false changes. It showed that the techniques applied are effective to detect changes in areas affected by the disaster.

This study aimed to determine levels of pressure and compaction induced by forest harvesting operations in a Red Latosol (LV) under planted eucalyptus. Undisturbed soil samples were collected from layers 0-3 and 15-18 cm and then used in a uniaxial compression test. Sampling was done before and after harvesting operations. Equipment being evaluated included: harvester, feller buncher, forwarder, self-loading adapted tractor, standard truck, wide-tire truck and grapple saw. Average pressures induced by the grapple saw were 320 kPa and 272 kPa, causing compaction in 80% and 20% of samples respectively from layers 0-3 cm and 15-18 cm, which indicates substantial degradation of soil structure in areas where timber is processed. In layer 0-3 cm, average pressures induced by the harvester and by the feller buncher were 240 kPa and 263 kPa respectively, while in layer 15-18 cm pressures were 234 kPa and 239 kPa respectively. The feller buncher caused higher soil compaction than the harvester in layer 0-3 cm, yet in layer 15-18 cm they had similar behavior. All timber forwarding equipment led to soil compaction. The wide-tire truck was the forwarding implement promoting the highest rate of compaction, in both residue conditions.
