This study determined the maturation age of Platanus x acerifolia (Ait.) Willd., through anatomical characteristics of the wood by means of the segregation of the juvenile-mature wood. Three adult trees were elected, of appropriate trunk and with diameter larger than at 40 cm (48, 41 and 46 cm) the 1.30 m of height. Discs with 2 cm of thickness at 0.1 m of height of the trunk were used. From each disc it was removed a central part of 2 cm of width, that was divided at the pith in samples A and B . Only one sample was selected and the initial wood of each growth ring was separated for maceration (method of Jeffrey). Departing from the pith, the length, diameter and the lumen of thirty staple fibres in each growth ring were measured. The thickness of the walls of fibers was taken as the half of the difference of the diameter of the fiber and the lumen. The segregation of the two types of wood was defined by the radial variation (pith-bark) of the anatomical characteristics (length, diameter, width of the lumen and thickness of the wall of fibers), through two simple linear regressions. The results indicate that the fiber length is the best characteristic for defining the segregation age. The age of segregation of juvenile-mature wood was defined as 14 years-old. In turn, the anatomical parameters, diameter of fibers, width of the lumen and thickness of the wall of fibers were found inadequate for estimating the age of segregation.

Para sobrevivência, a interação clones/procedências x espaçamentos foi significativa.; This research evaluated the behavior of clone seedlings of natural hybrid of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh-Eucalyptus urophila S. T. Blake, identified as clones 8, 9, 11, and 12. Eucalyptus species/provenance were: APS-V (Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Zimbabue Africa provenance), USA (Eucalyptus urophylla, Avaré, Brazil provenance), EpK (Eucalyptus pellita Kuranda, Australia provenance) and EcP (Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Petford, Autrália provenance). The Experiment was established in four planting spacing (3x2m; 6x2m; 6x3m and 6x4m). The experimental design was the entirely casualized block in a factorial outline (8x4x3), with eight genetic materials (four clones and four species/provenances), four spacing and three repetitions totaling 96 parcels. The collection of data was accomplished at 9.4 years of age. The survival, DAP, was evaluated the total height, the individual volume and for hectare. The obtained data were submitted to the of Scott-Knott average test at 5% of probability. The results showed that, for DBH and volume per plant the interaction clones/provenance x spacing was significant; the volume per hectare decreased as the spacing increased; the height was not affected by spacing, but was affected by the genetic material; for survival, the interaction clones/ provenances x spacing was significant.

Rentabilidade econômica e risco na produção de carvão vegetal; Economic rentability and risk on charcoal production
The goal of the present work was to evaluate the economic viability of producing charcoal in eucalypt stands, in deteministic and risk conditions. In order to do this, the costs of a forest project were defined, as well as the production of charcoal under the management regime with three rotations per cicle. The risk analysis was carried out through the Monte Carlo method, using the @RISK software. Through the deterministic analysis, the economic indicators were positive (viable), and the risk analysis indicates that there is a probability of 12 % for obtaining negative values, namely, for the project to be economicaly inviable. It was demonstrated that the inclusion of the risk analysis in the analysis of a project economic rentability offers greater safety for inference about the economic indicators.

This waste material can be used for energy production; currently it is mainly used in agricultural practices as field straw cover up. This paper deals with coffee s (Coffea arabica, L) husks biomass energy characteristics, including wood carbonization. As a reference, the same study was performed with a wood species regularly used for building construction named Cedrorana (Cedrelinga catenaeformis, Duke). Coffee s husks was obtained from a farm 150 km far from Brasilia city and cedrorana sawdust from a local saw mill. This paper presents results from energy and biomass variables like moisture content, bulk density, lower and superior heating power, ash content, fixed carbon, volatile matter and volumetric energy. It has also studied carbonization, charcoal, pyroligneous licqor and non- condensable gases. A comparison between Coffee s husk with 0% moisture content and Cedrorana sawdust portrays the following results: bulk density 144.41 kg/m 3 , fixed carbon 10.31%, superior heating power 4.57 kWh (or 16.46 MJ or 3.933 Mcal/kg), charcoal content 40,64% and heating value per cubic meter 2,179 MJ/m 3
