Resumo:
The surface water of reservoirs undergoes a puritying process know as conventional water treatment aimed at making in potable. This proces requires the addition of certain chemicals, such as: aluminium suiphate, hidrated lime and liquid chloride. This defines the preservation of the natural reservoir water potabily preventing as additional consumption of chemicals. The protecting forest in the water springs (sources) also benefits indirectly as it protects the natural properties of the water in reservoirs for treatment. The results were obtained from the protection of water springs in the Iguaçu River sources, in wich surface water was kept in reservoirs for treatment and later water supply since 1980 for the metropolitan área of Curitiba of additional volume of 1130 t/year of sulphate: 450 t / year of hidrated lime and 125 t / year of chloride.
