Resumo:
This paper discusses the legislation evolution and the rural property situation in Brazil. The principal laws that regulate the settlernent process, the rural module definition, the establishment of the rural lots and the ownership division definition are presented. For a better visualization of the legislation importance, practical results of its viability were sought in field, in a colonization project in Porto Vitória County - PR. The final conclusion is that the practical application of the actual legislation is impossible to put in practice, due to the lack of a real structured technical cadaster, which is the basic instrument for a fully development of the rural properties.
